All night we were tossing and turning because of the excitement of our journey ahead. We all slept at Sydney’s house to prepare for our flight later in the afternoon.
We packed snacks and made sure our phones were all charged for the 19 and a half hour
flight ahead of us. Our flight was scheduled to depart from RDU at 3:42 pm on November 25th,
to be a long flight. Emmie was very nervous all day because of the amount of stops we’d be taking,
and there was quite a bit that could go wrong. We had a layover in Boston and Dublin
before we arrived in Edinburgh, and our luggage was the biggest concern.
That was a lot of stops for the airport employees to keep track of! Thankfully, Julia calmed
our nerves reminded us that we have heaps of fun ahead of us and we shouldn’t worry about
that just yet. Around noon, we all grabbed lunch at Salem Street Pub and from there, we took an
Uber to the Raleigh Durham airport. After an hour through security, we grabbed some coffee at

Starbucks and waited for about an hour to hop on the plane. When we boarded the plane, we
got settled in our seats to fly to Boston. Just after we took off, Sydney screamed very loud and
broke down into tears. SHE FORGOT HER PASSPORT! She realized she left her wallet in the
bathroom, which had her passport in it. Anna immediately responded and called
the US Embassy to retrieve another copy once we got to Boston, using her previous flying
record and ID. Although she did have to pay a $50 fee, they were very understanding and sent a
new copy directly to Boston so we could pick it up once we landed. After that predicament,

squealing and giggling because we had finally reached our destination.

so we did some light shopping. Ok, ok, it wasn’t very light, like a few hundred dollars worth,
but that’s not what matters, right?! At 3:30 pm we checked into the apartment and headed to our
first stop, The Kelpies, in Grangemouth. The Kelpies were an hour away from our apartment.
Our excitement continued to build. We were ecstatic about the 100 feet tall sculptures we saw
up ahead. We stood in front of the massive horse sculptures and our tour guide, Fergus, talked
to us about the history of horses in Scotland. They used to pull barges (a flat bottomed boat) to
work in canals and fields. Fergus kept the information flowing and informed us on more Scottish
history. The Forth and Clyde Canal is connected to the North Sea, and the canal connection is
where the large sculptures now stand upon. The horses were thought to be modeled after the
real-life Clydesdale horses, Duke and Baron.

acres of land into an area to showcase this magnificent piece of art. We were able to stay past
sunset, admiring the bright sculptures that were so hard to leave later that night. After our day
full of travels and our first stop was complete, we drove back to our apartment and finally got some
sleep, that we were all practically begging for by the end of the day. After one amazing day in
Scotland, we knew we were going to have an awesome vacation.
